As God Is My Witness…
Scarlet uttered those famous words: As God is my witness I will never be hungry again. It even made the 100 most famous movie quotes. And, I’ll bet we have all at one time or another made that statement. Paul did! Paul wrote to the Romans, “For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers” (Romans 1:9). If God was your witness how would he testify?
Could He be your witness to all the people who have asked for your prayers?
When a neighbor was in need, could he be your witness that you didn’t send away cold and hungry?
How would he testify if asked about how many people you have pointed to Christ?
Could God be your witness that you are a good farmer always trying to sow good seed?
As God is my witness I have always led by the example set forth by Christ; is that something God could amen?
The next time you start to say “as God is my witness,” pause for a moment and asked yourself, “If God is my witness how would he testify?”
